Facebook: A Requiem for Face to Face...guest entry brought to you by Keef

Ok, let's face it. Technology has straight taken over our lives. In a world full of ichat, aim, facebook, myspace, twitter, blackberry messenger, etc.....its safe to say that we have lost the sincerity that came with just having a conversation! *sigh*....don't you miss the days when calling someone up or visiting someone was a lot easier than texting or writing them an email? When "boo loving "meant spending hours on in on the phone instead of chatting on aim ? When laughter meant really seeing a person smile instead of reading their LOL? Or if its really funny.... reading their, rotfl!!!!!? ugh! I sure do . Check out this latest entry by ya boy Keef. This is why.

“Where were you?! You said that you were coming!”
“No I didn’t!”
“Yeah you did, it’s on Facebook.”

“I haven’t seen you in so long! Wow! I see you have 2 kids, married, and a Masters in Forensic Psychology.”
“Well, that’s pretty much what’s been up. See ya. Hit my wall up.”

Photo comment: “Wow, you wearing the shit out that dress. Remind me of that night…Lol…Remember?”
Boyfriend: “Who’s that?!”
Girlfriend: “Nobody”

“Why does he always have to comment on your photos?”
“First Amendment”
“Seriously?! And he happens to like ALL your status updates?”

“What did you get your mother for her birthday?”
“I wish
ed her ‘Happy Bday’ on her wall.”

What is the real problem with the advancement of technology? i feel that allowing me to reach out to family and friends in a more convenient way is a great thing. I think it would be interesting to see how relationships with friends and families have developed since these social networks have come around. But what i do have a problem with is the idea that people consume themselves in their public and private time with "status updates' OR TWITTER messages. I find it weird that a relationship is not considered official until it's been announced on facebook or the relationship isn't truly over until he/she has taken it down. We have become "techno-whores" to the internet. We take it too far and we allow them to intrude so much in our lives that we no longer ahve boundaries and things are no longer sacred. When your at the movies, or a concert, or other social event; and your consumed with your email, facebook, twitter or myspace, then your missing out.

I totally agree. The internet, well technology has a whole has brought me in touch with a lot of family and friends worldwide that I probably wouldn't have been able to get in touch with. My problem with it all is that, I feel it should a compliment to your life, not something that takes over.

I will say this: although technology, at large--Social networking, specifically--have dissolved the intimacy of hearing someone's voice, shaking their hand, or even having a heated argument, it has been a great tool for exchanging information at startling rates. Remember party invites and flyers...Fuck 'em

While, technology is definitely making it harder to do "dirt" because everyone can see it, or derive their own context clues. . . I like being able to facechat, aim and text!

I like to think of it as a RETURN to the romantic age. BEFORE phones. . . writing letters was much more romantic. Although sometimes the immediate response, allows for some confusion in meaning sometimes when people are able to respond before you complete your comment... I'm still all for it.

I think it MUCH easier to write down feeling sometimes because if gives me a chance to rationalize it, and take my time rather than blurting out things based on pure emotions.

So yeah, I'd rather the "LoL" than actually hearing someone laugh at me. . .

LONG LIVE Facebook, AIM, and Twitter (death to myspace)
